Monaco is a very cool place, and I’d like to see it at a time other than the Grand Prix weekend… Oh wait, there is no other reason I would go there. That statement is certainly not true, but the GP was very much a high point. The crowd is huge, the atmosphere is intense and from our vantage point in the trees the noise is amazing.Read More
First appologies for having shoddy internet and not getting more updates out!
Germany is pretty great. So far I’ve loved pretty much everything about it. The efficiency is incredible, in every aspect of their day to day. They all know how to drive and the highways are a joy. Queues that seem like they’d take forever to get through in Canada take mere minutes. Everything is well maintained and the cities and towns are clean because there are garbage cans every 25 steps. But nothing is as well thought out as their beer. It seems the goal in Germany is to make the best beer possible and drink a lot of it.Read More
It’s a beast. They call it “The Green Hell.” And there is really no understanding of why until you’ve been there and gone around. Everyone has heard the stories, about the injuries sustained and about the lives the beast has taken. Everyone has heard about how pretty the town is and beautifully derelict the castle is. It is a neat place. And one I would recommend everyone experience.Read More
We've done it. We ate 2 metric shit tonnes of food. And drank beer to go with it all. As we ate and drank and walked Berlin I didn’t really think about taking notes at all so I don’t really have as much info as I’d like, but here’s the gistRead More
Is now at 5 days. That is practically no time before we embark on the journey of a lifetime. Four "besties" that have discovered they travel well together and have the same tolerance for doing weird things are leaving for 22 days to celebrate their collective 30th birthdays in style. The trip is going to include driving the Green Hell, visiting wineries, drinking beer, Zurich, the Monaco Grand Prix, wineries, Paris Opera Ballet, and Roland Garros, oh yea and a tour of the Jagermeister distillery because why not? It is going to be a bit of a ridiculous adventure of epic proportions and apparently people are interested to know about it.Read More
...Eyes on the rock. It is a saying to live by, not just great shotgunning advice. The google has been teaching me how to be a better shotgunner and how to break clay more consistently. There is a ton of different ways of saying it but the one common theme through all of the good advice I read can be distilled down to that one saying: Head on the stock, eyes on the rock. There are 2 parts to this saying and both are as important as the other, and each on their own without its counterpart is actually bad advice.Read More
I'm not talking about the text box on this Squarespace blogging tool that says "write here..." No I am talking about where I physically plop my ass down with my laptop and type away. I am talking about the places you can go to grab a beverage, maybe a bite, and get some work done. There are a few places I do this, from my living room, to the Starbucks next to Vinearts. But there are a couple coffee shops that are very worth mentioning in more detail, the gems that Calgary hangs on to and calls its own.Read More
We are now four races in to the new F1 season and it has been an incredible start. Like actually crazy. Even with Lewis winning 3 of 4 races the only thing that has been a constant is that Petronas Mercedes has the race pace that everyone needs to catch, other than that though we have seen 4 other teams join the Merc drivers on the podium, and every team has had reliability issues.
What makes racing exciting? Obviously this question was asked and well thought about before the new rule changes came into play. The formula is relatively simple for racing: There needs to be lots of over taking (or defending) and blistering fast speed. A little sideways doesn't hurt either. Combine those with pit stop, tire, aero and fuel strategies, F1 becomes an all around appealing sport. It's got the grunting and go fast for those that only want the adrenaline and the technical chess game, with living and highly skilled pawns, for the thinkers.Read More
It's nice out, finally. I am one of few that really loves the winter and doesn't mind the cold that we get here in Calgary, but I didn't realize how ready for I was warmth until yesterday. Yesterday was finally a great opportunity to get out to K Country and blow a few loads through my new set of pipes.
Those of you that know me well know that I like pretty things. And that I give preference to pretty things, and looking at this picture for me is reason enough to play favourites with this. Compared to my other shotgun which is a Remington 870E in all black synthetic, this Ringneck is something to behold.Read More
Right? Yup, when it is arguably the best possible way to have a Manhattan. Last night we had a meal with a few drinks and the whole experience made me long for warmer weather for the first time this year. The cold is not something I bitch about pretty much at all but drinking a white Manhattan and eating a rack of ribs calls for being out on someones deck.Read More
